There are lots of people who make mistakes with TREATING POLYMYOSITIS, are you one? That’s a common dilemma and probably boils down to the fact that it’s not as common a condition as other attacks of muscles; It’s attacking both sides of your body – UGH.
This week’s Chosen Visionary in HOT-Seat Number 68 is a survivor of a life-threatening muscle disease – After seventeen (17) years, he’s back, living his best life, and here to tell it! Those at The Urban Academics Roundtable are in for a treat (Thursday at 9:30 PM-EDT) to understand the debilitating effects of POLYMYOSITIS and how it almost destroyed his life. Still, he’s back with a story worth sharing.
Polymyositis is an inflammatory disease affecting the muscles on both sides of your body. It’s rare (Affecting less than 200,000 people in the United States), But polymyositis is more common in black folks than the white counterparts.

Mistakes Most People Make With Treatment
- Exercise (Move Around):
It may sound counter-intuitive, but if your muscles are what’s wrong, you’ve got to find a way to use them (your muscles). For God’s sake, don’t just sit there and wait for them *your muscles) to lock. No! Get as much use out of them (your muscles) as much use as possible. Then do that same thing for everything else in your life that is a pain in the butt! Every little bit counts, but move it.
- Nutrition (Eating Right):
Eating everything people say is healthy may not be healthy for your particular ailment. It would be best if you found out what your situation is taking away from a healthy report. For example, if your body is low in potassium, eating foods with more iron may not necessarily help your body in its current state of unrest (illness) to realign itself with a proper diet.
When it comes to swallowing – Diet also comes into play, one of the major concerns for folks living with this disease. You don’t want to put a strain on vocal cords, so you should be careful only to consume foods you know you can chew – No one else is going to do that for you unless you are a baby, and I doubt that. You’ve got to learn how to take care of yourself, right?
- Spiritual Healing:
Your energy (frequency) by and with yourself is the most crucial part of healing. It would help if you believed it’s already inside of you, that your body is a healing machine quick to rescue, fixing anything inward that’s broken or hurting. You have every right to shake your head and start over, sometimes again and again. Get around people’s places and things that inspire the best of you instead of reminding you about past mistakes and problems. Those things have already happened, in the past where you can leave them.
“it was almost like meditation is taboo for black people. Meditation for me has been good – I want to show other people how. I looked up information on being certified for $3,000.00, but there was a scholarships for folks in less likely communities. O applied and 2-weeks late received a scholarship. Two Hundred Hour Course regarding our inner and outer self. I felt empowered and I’ve got to share with others.”
