STEM education has become increasingly important in today’s fast-paced and technology-driven world. Science, technology, engineering, and math are the fundamental building blocks of many of the world’s most innovative and exciting careers. Unfortunately, many inner-city youths do not have access to the same resources and opportunities as their more affluent counterparts. However, STEM education can change the lives of these young people by providing them with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the 21st century.
Coding and Gaming
Coding and gaming are among the most exciting and dynamic areas of STEM education. This field has exploded in recent years, and there are now more opportunities for young people to learn how to code and create their games. These skills are in high demand in the tech industry and can lead to well-paying and fulfilling careers.
In addition to providing a pathway to a career, coding and gaming can also help young people develop essential skills like problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaboration. These skills are valuable in any job and can help inner-city youth overcome the challenges they may face in their daily lives.
Robotics and Automation
Another exciting area of STEM education is robotics and automation. This field is rapidly evolving, and many different types of robots can perform a wide range of tasks. From manufacturing to healthcare to education, robotics, and automation are changing the way we live and work.
Inner-city youth can benefit from learning about robotics and automation in several ways:
It can help them develop important technical skills that are in high demand in many industries.
It can expose them to the many different types of careers that are available in this field.
It can help them understand the ways in which technology is changing the world around them, and how they can be a part of that change.
Service Answering Tech Solutions
In addition to coding, gaming, and robotics, there are many other areas of STEM education that can benefit inner-city youth. One of these areas is service-answering tech solutions. This field involves the use of technology to provide customer service and support. This area is experiencing rapid growth, and many different types of jobs are available in this field.
For inner-city youth, learning about service-answering tech solutions can be a great way to develop essential skills like communication, problem-solving, and customer service. In addition, it can provide them with a pathway to a career that is in high demand and pays well.

Welcome to our blog post on the history of daylight-saving time (DST) in the United States! If you enjoy long summer days, you know how precious an extra hour of sunlight can be. But have you ever wondered why we even have DST in the first place? How did this practice come about, and how has it evolved in the US?
In this post, we’ll take you on a journey through the fascinating history of DST in America, from its early beginnings to the controversies and changes of recent years. You’ll learn about the social, economic, and political factors that have influenced the adoption and adaptation of DST in different regions of the country and how it has impacted people’s lives and livelihoods.
So, get ready to explore the highs and lows of DST in the US and gain a deeper understanding of this cultural phenomenon that affects millions of Americans twice a year. Whether you’re a history buff, a curious learner, or simply someone who wants to know more about the world around you, this post is for you. Let’s dive in!
Benefits of Daylights Savings Time (DST)
Daylight Saving Time (DST) has been debatable for years, with some arguing that changing our clocks twice a year is not worth the hassle. However, proponents of DST argue that it brings a range of benefits to individuals and society. In this blog post, we’ll explore some of the most significant benefits of DST and how they impact our lives.
First and foremost, DST is associated with energy savings. By aligning our schedules with natural daylight hours, we reduce the need for artificial lighting and heating, decreasing energy consumption. This benefits the environment and lowers energy bills for households and businesses.
Another benefit of DST is increased productivity. With longer daylight hours, people are more likely to engage in outdoor activities, which can boost physical health and overall well-being. Moreover, studies have shown that people are more productive when they have more natural light and feel more alert and energized. This translates to better work performance and increased economic growth.
In addition to these tangible benefits, DST has also been linked to improved mental health and well-being. Longer daylight hours provide opportunities for outdoor activities, such as exercising, socializing, and enjoying nature. These activities positively affect mental health and can help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression.
Beyond these primary benefits, other potential advantages of DST are worth considering. For example, DST can reduce crime rates by providing more natural light during evening hours, deterring criminal activity. It can also help alleviate traffic congestion, as more people walk, bike, or take public transportation instead of driving.
Drawbacks of Daylight Savings Time
While Daylight Saving Time (DST) has its benefits, several drawbacks are worth considering. In this blog post, we’ll look at some of the most significant disadvantages of DST and how they can impact our lives.
One of the primary drawbacks of DST is the disruption it can cause to our sleep patterns. Changing our clocks can lead to feelings of jetlag and affect our circadian rhythms, resulting in decreased productivity, mood swings, and increased risk of accidents.
Furthermore, DST has been linked to negative impacts on health, too. Studies have shown that Daylight Saving Time can have negative implications for our health, including increased rates of heart attacks, strokes, and car accidents. The disruption to our sleep patterns can also lead to increased levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. In addition, the shift in daylight hours can affect our body’s production of melatonin, which can harm our immune system and increase the risk of illness.
Daylight Saving Time can also have economic costs, as businesses and individuals may have to adjust their schedules and routines to accommodate the time change. This can lead to lost productivity, increased absenteeism, and higher healthcare costs. Additionally, some industries, such as agriculture, transportation, and tourism, may be particularly affected by the shift in daylight hours.
Criticisms of DST: Critics of Daylight Saving Time argue that the practice is outdated and unnecessary and can cause more problems than it solves. Some have called for eliminating DST, citing its adverse impacts on public health, the environment, and the economy. Others argue that the time change can be particularly difficult for children and the elderly, who may have difficulty adjusting to the new schedule. Overall, Daylight Saving Time has many valid criticisms, and it remains a controversial issue for many people.
Recent Changes to DST laws in the United States:
Daylight Saving Time (DST) is advancing clocks by one hour during summer to extend evening daylight and conserve energy. However, its effectiveness has been debated for years, leading to changes in DST laws in various regions.
In the United States, the Energy Policy Act of 2005 extended the DST period by four weeks, beginning in 2007. This change moved the start of DST from the first Sunday of April to the second Sunday of March and ended it on the first Sunday of November instead of the last Sunday in October. The extension was intended to save energy, reduce traffic accidents, and boost tourism.
However, the effectiveness of DST in achieving these goals remains controversial. In 2018, Florida passed a law to make DST permanent, opting out of the switch between Standard Time and DST. The move sparked discussions in other states to follow suit, but the implementation requires federal approval.
International Variations in DST Practices:
DST practices vary widely among countries and regions worldwide. Some countries, such as the United States, Canada, and European Union, observe DST, while others, such as China and Japan, do not.
In Europe, the European Union (EU) Standard Time directive stipulates that DST begins on the last Sunday of March and ends on the previous Sunday.
How to Survive Time Changes
Tips for adjusting to the time change:
Start adjusting your sleep schedule a few days before the time change. Gradually shift your bedtime and wake-up time by 15-30 minutes daily to make the transition smoother.
Get plenty of sunlight during the day to help regulate your circadian rhythm.
Avoid consuming caffeine and alcohol in the evening, as they can interfere with sleep.
Keep your bedroom calm, quiet, and dark to promote restful sleep.
Consider taking a short nap during the day if you’re feeling tired.
Best practices for maintaining healthy sleep habits:
Stick to a consistent sleep schedule, even on weekends and holidays.
Create a relaxing bedtime routine to signal your body that it’s time to sleep.
Avoid using electronic devices for at least an hour before bedtime, as the blue light emitted by screens can suppress melatonin production and interfere with sleep.
Exercise regularly, but avoid vigorous physical activity close to bedtime.
Avoid consuming large meals or fluids close to bedtime, which can cause indigestion and frequent urination.
Strategies for minimizing DST-related stress and anxiety:
Acknowledge that the time change can be challenging and give yourself time to adjust.
Practice self-care activities such as meditation, yoga, or deep breathing exercises to help you relax and reduce stress.
Stay connected with your support network, whether family, friends or a therapist.
Use positive affirmations or mantras to help you feel calmer and more centered.
Focus on the benefits of the time change, such as longer daylight hours and the potential for more outdoor activities.
In conclusion, Daylight Saving Time has both its advantages and disadvantages. While it can provide longer daylight hours and potential energy savings, it can also disrupt sleep patterns, negatively impact health, and incur economic costs. The practice has received criticism from various groups and remains a controversial topic.
As individuals, it is vital to manage Daylight Saving Time’s impacts on our well-being, such as adjusting our sleep schedules and practicing self-care activities. Additionally, we can engage in the conversation about DST and advocate for changes that prioritize our health and well-being.
In considering the societal impacts of Daylight Saving Time, it is vital to recognize the potential economic costs and adverse effects on public health. By engaging in meaningful conversations and advocating for evidence-based policies, we can work together to create positive changes that benefit us all.
Ultimately, the well-being of ourselves and our communities should remain at the forefront of our conversations about Daylight Saving Time. By taking proactive steps and advocating for positive changes, we can create a world where everyone can thrive and flourish.
Have you ever heard of the term Returning Citizen Juvenile Lifer? Neither had I until the day I was blessed to interview Ray Boyd, A.K.A. Ra’Sun Allah from New Haven, CT. His story is not glamorous at all. However, it has the power to change the trajectory of any life.
Old-timers call it the “Slow Walk!” no one wakes up in the morning with the wish of being arrested and thrown in jail. If you watch those court and crime shows on TV, you owe it to yourself the honor of meeting and hearing the story of the King sitting in HOT-Seat Number 90. Nine is the number of wisdom – You are invited to dine at the Urban Academics Roundtable Thursday at 9:30 pm (EST).
HOT-Seat 90 is Advocate is Author, Returning Citizen Juvenile Lifer, Ray Boyd (New Haven, CT) is Chosen Visionary
Meet the man who spent close to 30-years in prison for a crime committed when he was 17-years-old. Ray Boyd, AKA Ra’Sun Allah, was just seventeen years old when he entered a prison environment with hardened criminals and had to find his way. He was sentenced to fifty (50) years!
Ray transformed his life alone, while in prison, and he’s changed his life for the better. His story, in his words and voice, will no doubt change the trajectory of your life! Christianity was the chosen religion of his household, but young Ray grew closer to Suni Muslims and what is known as “Five Percenter.” Today, he takes his life seriously and lives with a God-like conscious where he gives back every day, is aware of his reckless early years, and is moving on to bigger and better.
According to King Ray, his journey of crime started at home, and by the age of 12, he was already selling hard drugs regularly – To hear from Ray Boyd directly, show up to the Urban Academics Roundtable (FREE Registration). He’s now an advocate, author, broker assistant for a prominent real estate firm, and a returning citizen juvenile lifer. Can you imagine – Half your life behind controlled gates for one false move.
The Returning Citizen Juvenile Lifer has Authord a Book! Buy it NOW ($19.95)
Rehabilitating a Returning Citizen Juvenile Lifer
King Ray volunteers to abolish the American Prison Industry Complex and Solitary Confinement with CT. He is the author of the Model Inmate and an advocate for Second Chance Offenders.
It is clear that the streets of New Haven, Connecticut can be compared to New York City (it never sleeps). There’s also the only thing between New Haven and New York is the Metro-North Rail Train. All sorts of things happen in New Haven where young Ray Boyd was caught into the culture of a lifestyle of new money! The money was too much for inner-city kids to handle; So we thought!
New Haven produced several millionaires out of the 80s and early 90’s drug trade. There were some athletes and Rap superstars amongst them – Mostly all succumed to the pressures of steet like. For the first time, folks were able to purchase homes for their families. Others made sure younger siblings were able to attend college. Thirty years later, not too much has changed. New Haven, home of Yale University, is the most dangerous city in Connecticut. The battle of the haves and have nots continues, but in the inner-city that term is NOT sysnonymous with the likes of our white counterparts, regardless of how the money is gained.
More About Ray Boyd A.K.A. Ra’Sun Allah – Returning Citizen Juvenile Lifer
This King, when he is not running around with an “S” on his chest doing his best to advocate and fight for others, he is doing more of the same. He is taking care of himself and drinking plenty of water these days to stay hydrated. King Ray also reads quite a bit and walks. Ray is an author who has written two additional books, and they will be released soon.
He looks to bring his program acumen and his thirty-seven years of lived experience into the Second Chance Re-EntryInitiative(SCRIP) to be of some benefit to the lives of the young men and women who may walk through the door.
You do NOT want to miss this week’s Urban Academics Roundtable under any circumstances! Ray Boyd, Advocate, Author of The Model Inmate, Broker Assistant, and Returning Citizen Juvenile Lifer! Public school teachers worldwideith what they do and start our loving each child the same. Loving job is different than enjoying the company and time spent daily with folks you work with or are serving. It would be great if a e-requisite were required to love to teach: YOU MUST LOVE CHILDREN BEFORE YOU CAN TEACH!
By now,,, you know that’s not close to how it works. Spoiler Alert: Teachers are no all created equally,,, like folks in any other profession – The wheat and the tare grow together. Only God can do the separating. In o her words, quit trying to know ople – They change every day. Put your treasure in GOD who never ch ges, and his promise of daylight and moonshine coupled with new mercies have not failed us yet!
What’s Love Got to do With It?
Love is a relative term depending on anything that could mean something different to everyone (love). Every public school teacher was a student, and eryone everywhere, at any grade level, athletes whether varsity or JV, award-winning Emmy, grammy, and Oscar nominees were once students in a teacher’s classroom.
Teachers don’t just make the world go around. They are the world,,, and they ALL get into heaven FREE (says me)! Teachers, up until recently,,, were not ignored t rather reduced in the class hierarchy of local, state, and federal laws about education and teaching, especially if one is certified as a teacher or has continued education after goal attainment.

Modern technology is everywhere. It’s a wonder how we ever lived without it because that’s what it’s all about. If you remember back to the Jetson’s cartoon series, they had technology down to a science, too far back to be modern, or was it? I would run home from school to watch it – These days, even adults need to close their eyes. Television is not what it used to be, nor modern technology.
In today’s marketplace, technology skills are all about whether you get the job or not. So, how do we get our young people ready for the future if we are afraid, nervous, or scared when folks begin talking about math, science, and technology. This week at the Urban Academics Roundtable, the HOT-Seat Chosen VIsionary is from Los Angeles, CA. He is heavy-handed with technology and needs to share a boatload of what’s coming down the pike with you. Please join us at the weekly roundtable Thursdays at 9:15 pm (EST).
Regional Vice President (West) at WGU Technology-Based University is Chosen VIsionary in HOT-Seat EIGHTY-FIVE (85)
Richard Benbow, III is the Regional Vice President (West) of Western Governors University, the nation’s first and largest competency-based tech university. In this role, Mr. Benbow combines his passion for innovation and information technology with a desire to serve others, providing access to affordable, high-quality education for underserved adult learners throughout the region. He leads a team that executes strategy and operations to optimize student success utilizing the WGU platform and developing partnership relationships that drive value for employers and students.
About Competency-Based Learning in Technology
Competency-based education (learning) is a framework for teaching and assessing education based on what you already know, evidenced by your passing a series of tests in most cases. Some assessments will be necessary to validate your knowledge level as you move through your chosen academic program.
Intended outcomes for this education (learning) model and real-world performance. When working with youth who seem bored with school, that can be translated into disengagement with their learning. These days, that’s a back-handed behavior slap. Schools have long become baby prisons, more concerned with bodies and behaviors than brains and ideas.
Students who are harder to engage are generally more hands-on students, many of whom fall in love with technology. All is won when the light bulb goes off the power one has to design a future built on success with simple technology certifications, and some of those are FREE! Looking in the eyes of a child who has found his path is why we started PIMOSH.net, an arts education firm that is working to redeem 3rd grade and STEP-Catch up 3-years of current learning loss.
If kids already know how to develop apps and websites have already submitted something to the apple store or google play, they are prime candidates for this technology opportunity. Consider Tech Titans at University of North Carolina | Charlotte? No sweat! Tech Titans @ UNCC accepts middle and high school students but gladly accepts younger students with technology promise! Tech-Titans will operate for spring break 2022 (April 11-15), and we invite you to join us in person on the beautiful campus or online via the virtual experience.

Barriers to the Masses
Many children we work with are not necessarily encouraged or motivated towards educational success. They like nice things and know about things I didn’t know about until much later, but wanting information that’s powerful enough to change the trajectory of life is not something most of my students are accustomed to. It is, therefore, our job as educators and concerned citizens to do all we can to make sure ALL technology benefits everyone, especially our children who inherit what we bless or a curse. Technology can go either way and so can our children and what goes on between their ears,
People Involved in Motivating Our Students Higher (PIMOSH) is Redeeming Third Grade and playing catch-up for three years of learning loss. If you see a “C,” call me (Ms. Patrina) at 1.844.4.PIMOSH (746674), or email patrina@pimosh.net.
Anyone who has ever attained a degree regardless of age did not do it alone – A village is always needed and welcome. With all its modern power, technology cannot take the place of the human element, not its experience with flesh and blood. We can’t fight youth to motivate. It must be inspired and somehow caught as their real idea and worth sacrificing and walking towards. Our kids need immediate outcomes in their favor! We’ve got that at Tech-Titans, and I believe we’ve found the next steps for some of our struggling students who may benefit from a non-traditional college or university setting.
We must help one student at a time by pointing out educational facts, introducing new opportunities for expression, and providing necessary resources to make success a reality. We can no longer tolerate “C” grades when we know inner-city public school quality points are on the floor – It’s like a “D’ or high “F!” We cannot count how many of our top students cannot make it through their first year at college. Sometimes it is money, schools trick us a little (at the beginning), but sometimes it has nothing to do with money; They could NOT compete academically. When in doubt, get a PIMOSH Tutor!
Men have dominated the music industry since the beginning. Few women have penetrated the 12.22-Billion Dollar industry (annual). Women in Jazz is an off-beat topic, but this week’s Chosen Visionary in HOT-Seat 84 is a timely topic that should be front and center.
There are new and innovative ways for folks to consume their favorite genre of music. It comes direct from women in the music industry, and one is at the Urban Academics Roundtable. Questions on the table, like where’s the money?
So much so that she founded the organization known as Women in Jazz Global, Inc. Her mission is to promote women in music worldwide and get their fair share of the money associated with their music and songs.
HOT-Seat 84 is Dr. Joan Cartwright (Boynton Beach, Florida)
Joan Cartwright is an author, college professor, composer, podcast host, producer, and retired Blues and Jazz performer. She is also the Founder of Women in Jazz South Florida Inc, Women in Arts, Business catalogs, Musicman Magazines, and Musicwoman magazines.
Dr. Cartwright, A.K.A Diva JC has performed with her swinging brand of Jazz and blues all over the United States, France, Germany, Austria, Holland, England, Jamaica, Brazil, Mexico, Ghana, Gambia, South Africa, China, Japan, Switzerland, Italy, and Spain. Over that period, she worked with hundreds of male musicians and only six women. Diva JC wanted to bridge the gap in the male-dominated music industry.
So, in 2007, She founded Women in Jazz South Florida, Inc. to promote women musicians in Jazz, locally, nationally, and globally. Audio, archives, articles, clinics, contacts, courses, events, film, history, interviews, lectures, newsletters, research, websites, workshops, video recording, concerts, performances, and recognition. Today there are members worldwide, and it is now called Women in Jazz Global Inc.

As we continue celebrating the new year, we are wondering can you pass the 2022 Awards and Recognition Ceremony Test? Every year, Urban Academics celebrates the highs and lows of the previous year and the accomplishments and contributions made to the platform or weekly roundtable.
We believe it necessary to de-brief and make decisions based on factual information and feedback from the membership. Urban Academics presents its annual stats and a list of Chosen Visionaries from 2022 below:
The Urban Academics Roundtable as of January, 2022:
Urban Academics sent out its first invitation for its first guided imagery dinner party on April 16, 2020. It was in direct response to and on the heels of the U.S. Department of Education’s decision to close public schools and waive educational requirements due to COVID-19 and the worldwide pandemic.
2022 Awards and Recognition
Now that Urban Academics is a toddler (16-months-old), we understand that we are off and walking, still holding onto the walls and sometimes needing balance. We are excited to report having had several pilot programs over the last year that have proven fruitful for those individuals and the table at large. The goal is to teach one, but that’s only possible when we can care about one another, give information – the good parts too, and share resources.
When we are filled with God’s blessings, it’s hard to keep the good stuff to yourself because you know if you do not share, it will eventually choke you. There is no competition because most folks will not do anything towards their goals or visions, only talk about them and sow discord regarding those busy doing/working their plan. I call it jealousy, but there might be another word for it.
Chosen Visionaries are rarely messy and not too nosey – We are too busy trying to figure out what’s next. We understand that the dispensation we find ourselves under has the book of revelation all over it. We live in a time where it is difficult to think of anyone other than ourselves. However, that position might make I difficult due to so many needs bigger than me or you. Once we reach the point where we believe none of this belongs to us and it (stuff) doesn’t matter anyway, we begin to walk through the door of grace.
The church talks about tithing (10%), and so does the bible! Who caught the fact that I separated the church and the bible? Of course, they do go together (church and the bible), but the two terms are not necessarily interchangeable. My charge is to give 10% wherever you see the need (CLOSE TO YOU). If you know a child in the winter with a jacket on, you know they need a coat – Please BUY the CHILD a COAT; That’s TRULY a gift to G.O.D. Because he (God) needs that child to be warm and feel love. Otherwise, you would NOT be the one who sees the need. Your church will be fine.
I know people who have plenty, yet tight as girdles. They would NEVER consider giving anyone anything outside of their immediate church or circle; They will not part with their money, wisdom, or anything else but appear to be blessed. Chosen Visionaries are blessed to be a blessing to the masses, and they know it. As the creator of Urban Academics, I cannot call you Chosen! You must agree to the knowledge of that fact, or not all on your own.
Chosen Visionaries in the HOT-Seat
HOT-Seat Chosen Visionaries come from varying backgrounds and all walks of life. We celebrate each one in their collective and individual contribution to this content-creation and story-telling platform. These conversations are R.A.W., REAL, and RELEVANT, and there’s not another platform quite like this one. Consider joining us at the Urban Academics Roundtable every Thursday. There is a virtual (guided imagery) dinner party where the venue for Kings and Queens serves food suitable for the body, mind, and soul. It’s FREE, but you must register >>>

A Teacher’s Purpose can change from day to day; How to save money with a teacher’s purpose is another thing entirely. Sometimes minute by minute a circumstance or situation can change the dynamic no matter what you have planned. If you work with people, you must learn to be flexible if it’s not part of your anatomy. Anytime you have more than one person around, teaching can and must happen. The teacher’s purpose is certainly the driving force, but most often is developed over time based on who he or she is working for, or with and what outcomes are expected.
As the year ends and 2022 rings in, teachers are fighting for their lives and rights. There’s no one else on earth who should be paid more than teachers, but that’s not how we do things here in these United States of America, AKA (in the hood) the United States of America.
Because of the worldwide pandemic COVID-19, 20 and 21 teachers from all over the country have taken flight leaving their already over-burdened jobs. It appears that trillions of dollars have been thrown at education, but the truth is education has always been the front for urban growth and development for urban youth. The question is where did those dollars go? We know for certain others were NOT spent on helping early learners to know how to count, read, or write. NOW, we are here. We don’t have time to fight – Only to teach; Please let us?
A Teacher’s Purpose Defined
According to Wikipedia,
What about Urban Academics?
At Urban Academics, we produce topical content that enables black, brown, poor, and other folks who live the inner-city urban experience. Each weekly segment features a new Chosen Visionary from all walks of life, sharing their stories of failure, success, tenacity, and more. Collectively, contributions to the world are significant. Chosen Visionaries do not run from worldwide pandemics but rather do all they can to chart their individual and collective course! Those who don’t give up ultimately find success, and here in this post, you will meet our next Chosen Visionary in HOT-Seat Number SEVENTY-Nine (79).
How to Save Money With Teachers Purpuse?
Every governor in every state has the power to save money with a teacher’s purpose. Most educational entities are top-heavy because most of the roles are political. Therefore, sometimes the best answers are overlooked because the folks with them (ideas) are overworked, and are not able to sit in decision-making rooms. There are states that bring certain teachers into the mix to create comradery amongst the teaching profession, but that hardly cuts the grade because the numbers are not balanced.
If we took the summer months to design the school year, rather than the pseudo summer school programs carried on in our inner-city schools, we could re-purpose money floating it in the right direction for the same children, utilizing teachers working together answering a few key questions. I won’t answer those in this blog, but you can join us at the Urban Academics Roundtable to hear from Chosen VIsionary in HOT-Seat Number 82, Lady Linda Turner.
You save money when you understand a teacher’s purpose. Just allow him or her to do whatever they feel, in order to move a child from ZERO to HERO! If it doesn’t cross ethics or integrity, allow good teachers to go on and teach. After all, isn’t that what they should do – Teach?
